A real game of chess, one link away.
Free, no account, nothing to install. Choose who you play.
What you get
Standard chess, in full
Castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate, stalemate and the draw rules. One rules engine checks every move.
Six computer strengths
Learner, Casual, Club, Sharp, Strong, Relentless — it runs in your browser and starts at once.
A clock, or none
Untimed, 3+2, 5, 10 or 15+10 against the computer, or a clock you set. In a friend game the server keeps the time.
Custom games, for practice
Hints, take-backs, an evaluation and threat marks — against the computer, switched on by you, and never rated.
Every game, checked
Stockfish reviews the game when it ends: what decided it, and every move to step through.
No account needed
Signed out, nothing is kept. Signed in, a Standard game against the computer counts on your ChessOS rating.
Share Chess games earn no prize and have no bearing on tournament eligibility or your Lichess rating. Chess4prize’s paid tournaments are a separate product, played on Lichess — how that works.
